Christian Education at St. Paul Lutheran Christian Education is a process that never ends, and St. Paul recognizes that all members of our congregation need to be presented with opportunities for continued spiritual growth. As such, there are programs both on Sunday mornings and throughout the week for all members of the congregation. The education of adult members falls under the leadership of the Teaching Core Ministry Team. The education of our middle and high school age youth is under the direction of our Coordinator of Youth Ministries, Jill Beverlin. Our Sunday School Volunteer Coordinator Tamie O’Dell, in conjunction with the Education Committee, coordinates programs for preschool children through children in fifth grade. Traditional Sunday School classes for students from preschool through high school take place between Sunday morning services. For first through fifth grades and ninth through 12th grades, we are utilizing the Akaloo Curriculum. We traditionally kick-off the school year with Rally Sunday – a family event. We conclude the year with a Family Day picnic. First Communion classes are held for 5th graders on Wednesday nights during Lent. Confirmation instruction occurs in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades on Sunday mornings. Ninth graders have a confirmation preparation class in which they prepare faith statement projects and design and implement service projects. This occurs in the months of September and October and concludes with the Affirmation of Baptism (Rite of Confirmation), this year on Reformation Sunday. In addition to Sunday morning programming, there are many youth fellowship events. We typically try to alternate fellowship and service projects each month during the school year. Some examples include: Back-to-School Gathering (bowling, overnight, etc.), Cookies and Caroling, Subs and Bowling (fund raiser), Let’s Roll (bike ride) and Ski Trip. During the school year, middle and senior high youth have a once-a-week after school program called “Drop In.” Students come to have a snack, enjoy fellowship time, play games, chat, etc. We also participate in the annual Senior High Youth and Junior High Youth gatherings. We have been moving toward a three year cycle of doing a “high adventure” events like canoeing the Boundary Waters, attending the National Youth Gathering, and participating in larger scale servant events in needy areas of the U.S. For more information on our Youth programs, please click the Youth section of our website! Adult education features small-group study of the Bible and other pertinent subjects. Groups meet on Sundays between services, weekdays, and evenings.
